About Us

‘I Want to Go Where the Dogs Are’ is the first book published by Dakota Koda Publishing, LLC. The book and publishing company are a collaboration between two lifelong friends, Brent Honcharenko and Lance Kramer.

Brent and Lance have been friends since they first met as seventh-graders at Wachter Junior High School in Bismarck, ND. They continued their friendship to Bismarck High School and graduated as members of the BHS Demons Class of 1984.

After graduation, both left their hometown and home state. Brent went south where he attended and graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a degree in communications/public relations and a minor in journalism. Lance went west where he attended and graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in telecommunications and film.

From Illinois, Brent moved to Wisconsin and then to Minnesota where he still lives today. Brent worked as a newspaper journalist, columnist and editor in Prescott, WI, before transitioning to the Twin Cities area print industry in the early 1990’s. Brent has held leadership positions at American Color Graphics, Thomson Reuters and Thomas Printworks. He is currently the digital print manager at University of Minnesota Printing Services. Brent continues to write and do freelance projects, and for the past several years he has volunteered his time as a content creator for Ruff Start Rescue. As a RSR communications team volunteer, Brent writes articles and blogs for the organization’s website and he writes weekly foster pet bios, to promote rescue pet adoption. Brent and his wife, Kim, live in Rosemount, MN.

Lance stayed in southern California after college. In the early 1990’s he moved from San Diego to Los Angeles where he began working at Film Roman Animation Company. He was working there when Phil Roman received the call that his studio was granted the contract to produce The Simpsons television show. Lance started as a character layout artist on The Simpsons production team and worked his way up the ranks to director. In 2013, Lance took a year away from The Simpsons to work on a new show called Futurama, of which he directed three episodes. Since then, Lance returned and works full time as a director on The Simpsons production team. Lance lives in Newbury Park, CA.

Nearly 50 years have passed since junior high school, and although distant, Brent and Lance’s friendship has always remained intact. Additionally, both Brent and Lance are, and have been, pet owners for many years of their lives. Lance’s most recent pet companion was a German Shepherd named Indiana, commonly known as Indy. Brent and Kim currently have two Labrador Retrievers, Remi and Sadi, and two rescue cats, Cam and Rigby.
